"Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you are going to get!" With hardly any explanation you get it don’t you.
A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn't literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. ... A metaphor states that one thing is another thing. It equates those two things not because they actually are the same, but for the sake of comparison or symbolism.
The idea, the concept is easily conveyed when you choose the right metaphor to get your point across.
That’s what I love about metaphor activities. They get people to connect the dots intellectually and emotionally. I mean there is absolutely no practical application to breaking boards or bricks with hands and snapping arrows or bending bars with necks or walking over fire or glass. It's the barrier, limitation or possibility that these activities represent that is so powerful. I spend a significant amount of time in my sessions attaching meaning to the activities. What limiting beliefs do you need to breakthrough, what behaviours or habits no longer serve you? What resistance do you need to pay attention to rather than retreating to a comfort zone?
Having done the activity. Once you literally, physically and metaphorically breakthrough, what people find is that this crosses over into their real life and what seemed tough or impossible before no longer remains so.
What you will find or have confirmed is that you already have all the resources within you that you can access to achieve whatever outcome you can conceive.
The action of the metaphor activity serves to empower you to take actual action toward achieving your desired outcome. So next time you have an option to break a board or brick or walk over fire do it…, you may well be surprised at your capabilities and what this means.
What do you reckon? Ever done one of my sessions? What did it mean to you?
Look out for one of my community workshops happening soon. Stay in touch. Make it a great one…
